The Struggles in High School Life

The stages of life continue as
we move towards our high school life.
Our tasks start to be harder, and
much bigger for us to handle.

Each stage becomes more difficult.
But despite all these, we become
a better and stronger person in
performing our roles in each stage.

Grade seven student is our first stage.
Full of adjustments accompanied with fear and tears.
Then the grade eight student,
starting to be confident and more responsible.
Lastly, the grade nine student, ready to go
and struggle to become a better student.

With a Smile

New teachers, new classmates, new service mates and new surroundings, that were the things that I thought of in this junior life. As I woke up last June 02, 2014, all I can feel was the pressure surrounding me. Seeing many different people as I entered the service and meeting them made me more pressured. As we go on to our destination, all I can perceived was full of anxiety. I was thinking of problems, bullying and many more negative things that might happen in my first day as a junior student. And because of that, all I did was to pray and hope that this day will be a smooth, good and memorable one for me.

As I entered our campus, I felt mixed emotions. I was excited yet I feel nervous. This is reality and that I can't get over it. "Hooh!" That was the only word that slipped from my mouth as I went down our service. "Labdab. Labdab." I can hear my heart beating fastly as I walked towards our classroom. And, finally! My first step in our classroom was fine. I immediately placed my bag on my designated chair and started to interact and socialize with my classmates. When it was already 7:00 am, we sat down and waited for our first class.

Our first class was Science. The class started with Ma'am Jenny Ann P. Soriano introducing herself in front. Since she was familiar with me because she was our teacher when I was in grade 7, I easily coped up with her subject. She was a silent type but a jolly and very talented one. Mathematics was our second class.I could say that this subject made my day quite exciting because of the naming activity that we had done with Ma'am Arceo. In this activity, you only need to choose one adjective that should start with the first letter of  your name that will also describe what type of a person you are. As the activity goes on, I'm getting more nervous because I can't think of an adjective that starts with letter "R" that will perfectly describe me. When Diana Rose pointed me, oh no! It's my turn! I immediately thought of some basic adjective words that starts with letter "R" and I had chosen the word "Responsible" to describe me. I knew that it was embarrassing but I did it! I was able to describe myself in front of them and I could say that some of them really agreed to me. We had a short break after that. We ate biscuits and talked to each other. We had our Research class with Ma'am Ruby H. Bautista at 9:45 am. We had our first class right away and discussed some basic things about research. We also had our first assignment in this subject and that was to search for the accurate definitions of the given terms. This subject was followed by the Analytic Geometry. I this subject, we first had a brief introduction of one another with Ma'am Lucky. Aside from that we also defined what Analytic Geometry is. We had our bountiful lunch after the class. After 45 minutes, we had our class in Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao with Ma'am Nazareno. We only recalled our previous topics in ESP in the whole period. The next class was Music. In this class, we were asked by Ma'am Malou to draw what we learned in MAPEH 8 and what we expect to learn in this MAPEH 9. After those two classes, we had our 30-minute recess. Classes resumed at 3:00 pm. We had our English class with Ma'am Maye right after the recess. In this class, we were asked to introduce ourselves one by one. And also, the list of the needed requirements were given to us for us to complete and submit it on the due date given. Our last class was Filipino. Like the other subjects, we introduced ourselves to Ma'am Tolentino and proceeded with the reading test. As the day ended, I can say that my first day as a junior high student was fine.

The next two days were manageable. We just took our Diagnostic Tests and attended our club meetings. I was able to be the Vice President of the Junior Health Guardian Club and also a minor member of YES-O and ICT Club. And because of these things, I can say that I'm already starting to be active for this school year 2014- 2015. The next days were regular classes already. We had assignments, activities, presentations and experiments.

To be honest, I really did enjoy my first week here in Science being a junior high student. Despite of all the pressures that I need to face everyday, with the support of my parents, the jokes of my classmates, with the presence of God and especially with laughter, everything will be smooth and fine for me. My negative perceptions were changed into a positive one. Now I see my junior life as a challenging one. It will be a lot of fun and hoping to overcome all of my anxiety with a big smile.
